Maximum Rock and Roll, in its issue #381 (February 2015), reviewed Throw’s STAND album. Here’s the transcript of the review:

THROW – “Stand” CD

The short review is that this disc is packed with high-energy melodic/metallic punk played with precision and delivered with teeth. If you’d like to dig a little deeper (and you should), THROW has been active in spurts since 2000 with various lineups, all featuring the guitarist/vocalist from DEAD ENDS, one of the first hardcore/thrash bands from (the) Philippines. Taking cues from modern catchy hardcore as well as their own past, Stand is almost a full hour of bouncy hardcore and amped up pop punk numbers with screaming solos and Al’s trademark sneering vocals that should be known far beyond their home country. If you ever lapse and think you’re listening to a by-the-numbers punk disc, bits like the NYHC stomp in “Survive” or the excellent “We Are the Revolution” snap you back to reality in an instant. While I honestly wish that this record was more of the hardcore/thrash and less of the melody, I appreciate that THROW makes it all work. Lyrics are harsh but determined missives that are focused on their existence in (the) Philippines, both personal and political. Fantastic shit that will likely fly well under the radar of most punks looking for the next trend…and that will be the punks’ loss. (WN) (self-released)
